The Unit of General Surgery at Kigali University Teaching Hospital provides excellent care to patient with both emergent and non emergent general surgical conditions.
The General Surgery unit is organized in two teams:

1. Acute Care Surgery Team (A.C.S)

The ACS team is composed of a dedicated and qualified team that provides care to patients with both trauma and non trauma emergency surgical conditions. The ACS team is functional seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
The conditions we manage include but are not limited to blunt and penetrating abdominal and thoracic injuries, intra-abdmoninal infections, necrotizing soft tissue infection, bowel obstruction,…

2. Elective and Oncologic Surgery Unit:

This unit is run by a team of dedicated and qualified surgeons who provide care to patients with non emergent and surgical conditions. In addition to this, the team takes care of patient with Gastro-intestinal tract cancers.

To enhance our services, surgical outreach activities have started in 2 provincial hospitals such as Hospital of Ruhengeri and Hospital of Kibungo.

The Department of Surgery at CHUK provides orthopedic, general and specialized surgical services to patients suffering from a wide range of high complex illnesses.

We’re constantly engaged in clinical research designed to come up with new strategies for diagnosis and treatment.

The Department of Surgery strives to provide premier clinical care to clients in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
